About denise
Denise Tarud
Denise Tarud was born in Santiago, Chile, and was exposed to multi-cultural environments from her early childhood, sparking her love for languages and cross-cultural studies. With over 20 years of experience as a free-lance professional translator, she has worked with law firms, energy and mining projects, international organizations, NGOs, government bodies, financial institutions and corporations from all continents, also providing services as a writer and editor. She is aware of the fact that understanding a text requires not just the translation of the words themselves, but the translation of the whole culture behind the words.
Currently based in Toronto, Canada, Denise also teaches Translation at the University of Toronto, and facilitates cross-cultural training sessions. During her free time, she volunteers her translation services to Translators without Borders, an independent non-profit association dedicated to helping NGOs, such as Doctors Without Borders, extend their humanitarian work by providing free professional translations. The funds these NGOs save through the use of volunteer translators can be used in the field, therefore enabling them to extend the scope and reach of their humanitarian work.
